After an unexpected period of intense family transition and bereavement, Alice Zoo decided to document the upheaval using a combination of her own documentary photographs and family archives, gathering imagery and memories as a means of examining her own complicated layers of grief.

'A Formal Feeling' is an exploration of the intimacy created by shared loss, the strange sorrow that comes from leaving a beloved place forever, the traces that are left behind unknowingly, and the difficulty in choosing to let go.
